At the end of 2016, I shared the first part of the Broken Hearts story, and earlier this month, I shared the full story behind the Dusty Rose Jumbo Broken Heart Necklaces, the Beaded Friendship Broken Heart Necklaces, and the Dainty Broken Heart Locket. Now, I'm back again to share the full story behind and showcase more project pictures for Dolly's Broken Heart Pillow, the largest of all of my Broken Hearts projects! This project continued my journey towards creating the Broken Hearts design. This time, I wanted to see how it would look in a larger yarn weight and I wanted to make tutorial project photos too! Getting my hands on good quality yarns is not an easy feat. Luckily, using Briana K's One Skein to Bulky technique, I was able to convert my cotton thread size 10 to roughly a sport yarn weight. Yay! I really wanted to play with colours with this one, so I chose three colourways of Circulo Clea Yarns - lavender (6399), pale blue (2137) and dusty rose or coral (3418). I paired it with my 3.00mm hook, so the stitches would be very tight. I crocheted one of each of the heart half appliques in lavender and one of each in blue, so it would be easier to see how the join row was worked. Then the join round and the lacy border round was worked in the dusty rose colour just like the locket, but this time without any necklace chains. This heart pillow is about 5” (12.5cm) at widest point and 3.5” (8.5cm) tall at the center or 4.25" (19.5cm) tall at full height. It made an adorable doll pillow, but it would also make a fabulous jumbo ornament too! What do you think of Dolly's Broken Heart Pillow? Is it something you'd make, or would you turn it into something different? Share with us! I'd love to hear your thoughts below... If you loved this project story, give it some love by sharing it, or by hearting this project or this crochet pattern on Ravelry!
