A few years ago, I was browsing pictures of crochet things, and I came across this spider stitch picture. I fell in love with that stitch and wanted to try it. Try as I may, I couldn't find a pattern for it, nor could I figure it out. So, I forgot all about it for a while. Last night for whatever reason, I had the sudden urge to figure out how it was accomplished. So, I looked at it again. With a little bit of trial and error, this is what I came up with. I doubt that it is exactly like the picture I found, but it is close enough for me. I didn't do it too big because I just needed to figure out how it was done, and I didn't want to be working it, and then have to unravel so much work.
Now I just need to buy lots of yarn and make a blanket with this stitch! For the Crochet Spider Stitch Pattern, follow link. This is a 5" tall Amigurumi Lion. I wanted the same look and size as Sharon's Little Bigfoot Lion. However, the only worst-weight yarn I have access to is of extremely cheap quality, and it irritates my hands. So I changed the stitching to make that happen, and I made my own pattern to accommodate the crochet cotton yarn and small hook size I had on hand. Check out Amigurumi Animals to see other animals I have made in a similar fashion, and to see the smaller lion.
