Amigurumi Grape Ape Monkey Cal - Part 5

Welcome to Part 5 of the Amigurumi Grape Ape Monkey CAL! Today we are going to crochet Grape Ape' eye patches, embroider her eyes and crochet her ears.

REMINDER: Side facing you as you crochet equals the WS of work for eye patches. Odd rnds equal RS of work for ears. Crochet in continuous rnds unless directed to do otherwise.

Monkey Eye Patch Instructions:

Make 2

*Use AC...

   rnd 1:  sc 6 into a magic circle (6 sts) *If using safety eyes later, do NOT close the magic circle too tightly. 
   rnd 2:  [sc 2 in next st, sc 2] x 2 (8 sts)
   rnd 3:  [(sc 2 in next st) x 2, sc 2] x 2 (12 sts)
   rnd 4:  sl st, (sc 2 in next st) x 2, sc 4, (sc 2 in next st) x 2, sl st, f/o with a short tail (if you will be sewing eyes onto the head, f/o with a long tail) (16 sts) *Last 2 sts rem unworked, but are still counted in the final st count.

Stretch a bit to make it more oval. Then, sew 4 sts (sl st to sl st) on the unworked sides of both patches tog. Knot tails to secure. 

Eye Embroidery Instructions:

Cut a long strand of black yarn. Thread it on yarn needle like you are going to do some hand sewing – knot the ends. You will be working the eyes onto the center circle from rnd 2 of each side of the eye patches.

Insert needle into one of the st sps from the WS. Then, cross over to another st sp in the circle and go back to the WS. Lock first st into place by inserting hook through knotted strands. Work in a circular fashion, repeating the process of going up in one st sp of the circle and crossing over to another to the other side. Do this twice into each st sp of the circle as you work around. Once first eye is completed, loop around strands on the WS and knot to secure into place. Without fastening off, cross over and work second eye just as you did the first one. Knot into place and fasten off with short tails. Set aside to either sew onto head or to incorporate as you crochet the head later.

NOTE - If Using Safety Eyes Instead:

Wait to attach them until you have completed rnd 14 of the head. Regardless of whether you will be sewing the eye patches onto the head or if you’ll be incorporating them into the head as you crochet, when it is time, insert them into the center of the eye patches and into st sps #13 & #20 of either rnd 11 or 12. Secure.

Make 2

*Use AC...

   rnd 1:  sc 12 into a magic circle, ch 1, turn (12 sts)
   rnd 2:  mirror sc 12, ch 1, f/o *See how to mirror sc here...

Monkey Outer Ear Instructions:

Make 2

*Use MC...

   rnd 1:  sc 12 into a magic circle, ch 1, turn (12 sts)
   rnd 2:  mirror sc 12, ch 1, turn
   rnd 3:  hold inner ear in front of outer ear and work the following sts around both inner and outer ear sts that line up tog - hdc 4, (hdc 2 in next st) x 4, hdc 4, f/o (if you will be sewing ears onto the head, f/o with a long tail) (16 sts)
