It's finally my turn to share a crochet pattern in the Designer's Potpourri CAL! Introducing Sweetheart Kisses Girl Fashion Doll Dress, a precious Valentine's dress for little Barbie dolls...
This is the first pattern I will be sharing with you during this year's Designer's Potpourri CAL. I'll be sharing two more later this year, one in October and the other in December. Learn more here...
The PDF version of this crochet pattern can be grabbed for FREE this week with a special code available exclusively for members of the Designer's Potpourri CAL. Request to join the group here. If you would rather not crochet a doll dress, I do have two alternative patterns using this sweetheart kisses crochet stitch, which I've linked at the bottom of this post. Now onto the Sweetheart Kisses Girl Dress...

Sweetheart Kisses Stitch:
The Sweetheart Kisses is a crochet stitch I personally designed. For video and photo tutorials of this stitch, please click here. Each time you see the abbreviation “sweetheart”, you will be making one heart.
TIP for switching colours = When only 2 loops rem on the hook to complete the stitch, drop the current colour and use the next colour to yarn over and pull through the loops to complete the stitch. Proceed as normal. sweetheart = switch to heart colour as you complete the last st before the sweetheart stitch is made – sk 2 sts, dc in the next st, tr in the st from the prev row below the last dc made (tr drop st), (dc, sc, dc) in the same sp as the last dc made, tr in the same sp as the last tr made (tr drop st), dc in the same sp as the last dc made – switch to background colour as you finish this last dc of the sweetheart kiss stitch, sk 2 sts (7 sts = 1 heart). Chelsea Dress Instructions:
Make 1
This dress is worked in turning rnds from the bottom, up to the waist. Then for the bodice, it switches to rows with an overlap section for the snap fastener. You have the option of starting with a foundation single crochet row (recommended for it’s stretchiness, click here for a tutorial by Moogly) or starting with the traditional foundation chs. *ODD rows = RS. OPTION 1 – Recommended: rnd 1: FSC 35 in red or chosen background colour, sl st join to first st of rnd, ch 1, turn (35 sts). OPTION 2 – Traditional: ch 36 in red or chosen background colour, sl st join to first ch made to make a circle, ch 1, turn... rnd 1: work this rnd in the BL of the chs – sc in 2nd ch from hook & in each across, ch 1, turn (35 sts). Continuing the Pattern for BOTH Options: rnd 2: sc 35, sl st join, ch 1, turn (35 sts). rnd 3: sc, [sweetheart, sc 2] x 4, sweetheart, sc, sl st join, ch 1, turn (45 sts). From here, only carry the heart thread up the rnds until you need it again... rnd 4: as you work this rnd, do NOT carry the heart thread under the sts like is done in the stitch tutorial – sc, [*dc into each of the next 2 unworked sts from the prev rnd, insert your hook into 2 lps of a post st from the top-center-back of the heart – work a sl st here (remember that the WS is facing you right now, so you’ll work into the side facing you), dc into each of the next 2 unworked sts from the prev rnd,** sc into each of the 2 sc sts between the hearts] x 4, rep from * to **, sc, sl st join, ch 1, turn (35 sts). *Make sure not to accidentally grab or work around the heart sts. rnd 5-6: sc 35, ch 1, turn (35 sts). rnd 7-21: rep rnds 3-6 alternately until you have a total of 5 heart rnds. *Note: you’ll end this rep on a rnd 5. rnd 22: *sc 2, sc2tog in BL, sc 3, sc2tog in BL, sc 2,** sc2tog in BL, sc 4, sk 1 st, sc 4, sc2tog in BL, rep from * to **, sl st join, ch 1, turn (28 sts). rnd 23-25: sc 28, sl st join, ch 1, turn – 3 rnds (28 sts). Drop red/background colour before the last ch 1, turn (you can f/o with this colour & crochet around the tail). Switch to pink/heart colour on the ch 1, turn from rnd 25... rnd 26-27: sc 28, sl st join, ch 1, turn – 2 rnds (28 sts). Switching to rows... row 28: sc 3 in BL, sc 25, sc 3 over the unworked FL from the first 3 sts of this row, ch 1, turn (31 sts). row 29-33: sc 31, ch 1, turn – 5 rows (31 sts). row 34: sc 5, ch 7, sk 4 sts, sc 10, ch 7, sk 4 sts, sc 8, ch 1, turn (37 sts). *Except for the turning ch, chs count as sts in this row. row 35: sc 7, *sk 1 st, sl st 7 over the chs, sk 1 st,** sc 8, rep from * to **, sc 4, ch 1, f/o (33 sts). Weave in all ends and sew the snap onto the top-back overlap of the dress. Kelly Dress Modification:
rnd 1-6: rep rnds 1-6 above.
rnd 7-13: rep rnds 3-6 alternately until you have a total of 3 heart rnds. *Note: you’ll end this rep on a rnd 5. rnd 14-27: rep rnds 22-35 above. Weave in all ends and sew the snap onto the top-back overlap of the dress.
*The Mary Jane shoes you see pictured with this dress above will be coming as a free pattern on Thursday. Stay tuned!
