This little Goldfishy Amigurumi is swimming by to announce it's arrival in my Shops and Get Stuffed Magazine's April 2017 issue! Come learn all about her and grab your copy of the pattern today...
Originally, I was going to ready my Flounder Fish Amigurumi pattern for the Sea Shore issue of Get Stuffed, but I want to do a video tutorial for him, so I had to think fast, what I would do instead.
Hence, Goldfishy was born. She was imagined and crocheted in only 2 days! And, lucky for me, I didn't have to frog her even once. Hurray! It's always great, when I can imagine something and crochet it sans frogging. Who's with me?
Anyways, I wasn't really sure what sort of fish I was going to make. I just had an idea, not really knowing what kind of fish I was seeing in my mind. But, I did know how I wanted to do the tail!
I started there. And, as I went along, I decided some stripes would do very nicely, so I did them. The main challenge that was on my mind, was trying to figure out how I could create an open mouth. I needn't have worried myself as it was less complicated than I imagined. Funny how we can over complicate things in our heads, isn't it?
I created the pectoral fins next, and once I had them done, I was able to imagine the dorsal fin.
Then, all I had left to create was the eyes and sew the pectoral and dorsal fins to the body! You'll notice, I designed both to match the body's stripes. Which happens to make sewing your fins into place evenly, so much easier. Win, win!
My Goldfishy was crocheted with Cotton Thread Size 10. Brand of thread I use is called Circulo Clea, and I used the colourways 1289 (yellow) and 4156 (orange) for the body and fins, and scraps of 3528 (red) for the mouth and 8990 (black) for the eyes.
I paired it with a 1.05mm hook. Together they made a 4" (10cm) long, 3" (7.5cm) wide and 2.5" (6.5cm) tall fish, including all the fins! Overall, I am quite pleased with how she turned out, and her cuteness, makes me want to design a baby mobile with other sea creatures. Wouldn't that be fun? :D You don't have to use thread to crochet yours. If you want to use sport or worsted yarn weights, your Goldfishy will end up being twice as long, wide and tall as mine, and super cuddly too!
Thanks so much to Despina T., Laura D., Tanya Joy (Cabin Crochet Creations) and Valery A. for testing the Goldfishy crochet pattern for me, and to Theresa P. for your help tech editing the pattern too!
