Friday Feature #21 - Helle Slente

​Coming to you on Fridays, I will share a new crochet/knit designer, a little blurb about them and three favourite pattern features from them too!

Without further ado, let me introduce you to this week's Friday Feature...

Helle Slente of Helle Slente Design

Helle has been crocheting and knitting for about 45 years. She learned both from her Grandma.

When asked what she loves about crocheting and knitting, Helle had this to say, "My absolute favourite is the entire design process....from the first sketches, through all the knitting & frogging, to the final part of making the layout for my pattern. I even make personal black-and-white drawings to each new pattern. I also take great pride in making my patterns easy to understand and follow, and my designs fun and entertaining to knit/crochet."

Her most favourite yarns to work with are alpaca-merino blends, especially STERK and MINI STERK from the Norwegian label 'Du Store Alpaca' (=the great alpaca). She says, "The yarn has the softness of the alpaca hairs and the stretchiness of the merino wool. And it works wonders with lace, Fair Isle etc...all the way through to Granny Squares :-)"

One of her favourite things are cats! She confesses, "I have 4 rescue cats - my heart beats for many homeless cats in Norway."

When she's not crocheting or knitting for herself, she's teaching it to others. She tells us, "I have just held a large beginner's class in brioche, so these knitters are ready for when Nancy Marchant comes to Stavanger in October."

Helle also sews her own clothes, and makes her own brand of stitch markers, too!

The first pattern feature is a premium crochet pattern. The last two are premium knit patterns!
Helle says, she is working to make her patterns available in both Norwegian and English.
