Decreases or tog sts are best worked by using the invisible decrease technique, where you only work in the front or back loops of a stitch. If you are unfamiliar with this technique, see my video tutorial here...
The panties are worked in rows from the top-back to the top-front, where the EVEN rows = RS. Then, you switch to rnds to join the back and front tog. This part is worked in non-continuous rnds, where the Side facing you = RS.
row 1: work this row in the bottom loop (a.k.a. back hump) of the chs – sc in 2nd ch from hook & in each across, ch 1, turn (17 sts).
row 2: sc2tog in FL, sc 13, sc2tog in FL, ch 1, turn (15 sts).
row 3: sc3tog in BL, sc 9, sc3tog in BL, ch 1, turn (11 sts).
row 4-5: sc 11, ch 1, turn – 2 rows (11 sts).
row 6: sc2tog in FL, sc 7, sc2tog in FL, ch 1, turn (9 sts).
row 7-9: sc 9, ch 1, turn – 3 rows (9 sts).
row 10: sc2tog in FL, sc 5, sc2tog in FL, ch 1, turn (7 sts).
row 11-18: sc 7, ch 1, turn – 8 rows (7 sts).
row 19: sc 2 in the first st, sc 5, sc 2 in the last st, ch 1, turn (9 sts).
row 20: sc 9, ch 1, turn (9 sts).
row 21: sc 2 in the first st, sc 7, sc 2 in the last st, ch 1, turn (11 sts).
Switch to rnds to finish panties... Follow either option!
Option #1 – Regular, No Stretch:
rnd 23: sc 34, sl st join, ch 1, f/o (34 sts). *The first st is worked into the same sp as the sl st join from rnd 22.
Option #2 – Elastic Stretch:
Weave in all ends.
