I just finished the set last night. The idea to make it was sparked by a fan of my Facebook Page Rebeckah's Treasures named Karen. She was looking for ideas on how she could make a Tinkerbell dress herself several weeks ago, so I gave her some tips. Once I had finished working on my Crochet Ponies, I got to thinking more about it. I had already decided I was going to crochet this outfit, but I thought I would check to see if there was any crochet Tinkerbell outfits for Barbie. I didn't see any, so I thought this would be even more fun... and it was indeed! Continue reading to discover more about this set and to see more detailed photos... Fairy Inspired SetAs you will see from the photo, this set has everything a Barbie Fairy would ever need. This set includes, wings, a dress, panties, slippers, a wand, a fairy dust pouch and a scrunchy. The Dress & WingsI started this project with the dress. I worked from the top, down in the base colour, then I did the outer skirt in a contrasting green. I crocheted the top part of the dress until the skirt without a hiccup. However, I can't say the same for the skirt. It took a little bit of trial and error to get the look I wanted. At first, I started out with way too many leaves/petals. So I had to undo it. Then, I did it with fewer and added the contrasting colour as a edging only. It was nice, but not what I wanted, so I undid it again. Third time was the charm though. I worked half of the leaves first in the base colour, fastened off, and went back over in the opposite sections to crochet the outer skirt. I left it like that while I worked other parts of the outfit. Once everything else was mostly done, then I sewed on the wings and the snaps. I crocheted the accessories as I thought about how I wanted to crochet the wings. Once I had no choice but to think more about the wings, I started scavenging around the house to see what I could find that might be useful. I found some bendable wire, nylon jewelry thread, nylon fishing thread and beads. I tossed around several ideas on how I should make them. One of the ideas I had, was to crochet with bendable wire. However, I wasn't quite ready to attempt that as I had never crocheted with wire before. I decided to crochet with nylon thread and beads around a bendable wire that I molded into shape. At first I was using the thinner nylon thread, but I ran out and had to undo what I had done and switch to the fishing one. That part was not fun at all. It took me several times to work out the top part of the wings because I had never done anything like this before. However, once I figured it out, it was super easy, and I am super pleased with how it turned out. Though next time I crochet wings, I am going to use a thicker bendable wire and a thinner nylon thread. After I had gotten the insides of the wings crocheted, I decided to crochet an edging around the wings to give it a finish. Before I did that, I got some input from my mom, and she suggested elongating the bottom parts of the wings to give it a dramatic look, which I thought was an excellent idea. So I did just that. Accessories for the OutfitScrunchyThe last thing I crocheted was the scrunchy. I knew that I wanted to do something for the hair, but I wasn't sure what I wanted to do. I waited until I had mostly finished everything else, so that it would be easier to determine what would complete the outfit. I tried many things, and nothing was right for me. I finally tried making a scrunchy, and it was just the ticket! WandI wasn't sure if I would be able to crochet a wand, but I thought I would give it a go anyway. I am happy to say that I was successful in making it. I added a little bead to the top. I probably would have used a larger bead if I had one on hand, but I just had the tiny seed beads. Fairy Dust PouchOne of my lovely fans from my Facebook Page Rebeckah's Treasures named Samantha, suggested that she should have a pouch to carry fairy dust. I thought it was a brilliant idea! I wanted it to be as small as possible, but big enough to put something tiny inside the bag. This is what I came up with. PantiesDue to the dress being really short, and also because I thought it would be fun, I made a little pair of panties to go with the outfit. I started in the back, and worked my way to the front. SlippersAt first, I wasn't sure if I wanted to make slippers or heels to go with the outfit, so I looked to my fans for advice. They were all unanimous in that they should be slippers. So that is what I did. I didn't add the pom poms until the end as I wasn't sure what colour I wanted to make them.
