Welcome to Part 4 of the Amigurumi Timothy Turtle CAL!
Today we are going to start making Timothy's Eyes and Head. Then, we're going to join his head to his body. At the end of this step, all your turtle will be missing is his shell!
Are you just joining us today? Be sure to check out Amigurumi Timothy Turtle CAL Part 1, where we go over the pattern notes, abbreviations and gather our supplies.
Already completed this step? Move on to Amigurumi Timothy Turtle CAL Part 5 (link will activate on Sunday, July 12th, 2015), where we will crochet the shell and finish this turtle, or check out the full schedule for this CAL below...

Turtle Eye Instructions:
Make 2 in Black - Omit if using safety eyes instead.
rnd 1: sc 6 into a magic circle (6 sts) rnd 2-3: sc 6 for 2 rnds. At the end of rnd 3, sl st join to first st of rnd, f/o with long tail (will be used to attach eye to head later). Use starting tail from magic circle to stuff the eye. *If you're planning to use safety eyes, and you're not sure what size you'll need, make one of these eyes. It will give you visual of sizing and it works up quickly. WAIT - Before You Start the Head:Cut a long strand of the MC and set aside (this will be used later for creating the turtle’s pinched nose) . Turtle Head Instructions:
Make 1 in MC
rnd 1: sc 6 into a magic circle (6 sts) rnd 2: sc 2 into each st around (12 sts) rnd 3: [sc, sc 2 into next st] x 6 (18 sts) rnd 4: [sc 2, sc 2 into next st] x 6 (24 sts) rnd 5: [sc 3, sc 2 into next st] x 6 (30 sts) rnd 6: [sc 4, sc 2 into next st] x 6 (36 sts) rnd 7: [sc 3 into next 2 sts, sc 16] x 2 (44 sts) rnd 8-9: sc 44 for 2 rnds rnd 10: sc 2, (sc 2 in next st) x 2, sc 20, (sc 2 in next st) x 2, sc 18 (48 sts)
rnd 19: [sc 6, sc2tog] x 6 (42 sts)
rnd 20: [sc 5, sc2tog] x 6 (36 sts) rnd 21: [sc 4, sc2tog] x 6 (30 sts) Pause here to pinch turtle’s face, stuff nose & attach eyes... Nose Pinching Instructions: Grab the long strand of yarn you set aside before starting the head. Thread it on yarn needle like you are going to do some hand sewing – knot the ends. Insert needle into one of the st sps you marked earlier from the inside going out. Go back inside through adjacent st, lock yarn into place by sticking the needle through the end of the yarn on the thread. Go back out through one of the middle sts of the 3 marked on one side. Insert needle into the top st from that side, cross over to adjacent st on other side. Insert hook into next st down, cross back over to the first side. Insert hook into the next st down, cross over to second side again. Tighten the threads, as you go along, just enough to create a pinched look. Rep again for all three sts just to make sure it is secure. Then, take the needle back to the inside. Tie off by looping around the loose threads.
Continue crocheting the head...
rnd 22: [sc 3, sc2tog] x 6 (24 sts) rnd 23: [sc 2, sc2tog] x 6 (18 sts) Pause here to embroider mouth to your liking and stuff head... rnd 24: [sc, sc2tog] x 6 (12 sts), sl st join to first st of rnd, f/o. Sew head to body with the body’s tail using 2 whipstitches per st. Every few sts pull tight. First and last sts of body should line up with the last and first sts of head, respectively. Weave in all ends. *If you didn’t incorporate the limbs as you crocheted the body, sew legs and arms to body now. Tip for Sewing Limbs onto Body:Press top of leg or arm sts tog, so you create a straight line. For legs, press st sp #10 to #12 and st sp #1 to #3. For arms, press st sp #6 to #7 and st sp #1 to #12. (If you followed the tip boxes whilst working the body, you should have the placement on the body marked. Just sew the respective limbs onto those spots.).
