Mermaid Dresses with TrainsAfter working on the first three dresses that I shared with you on Tuesday, I wanted to work on more mermaid dresses. The mermaid dresses start off with fewer reps in the round, and since I only had enough white to do two more dresses, I did them both with trains. For the first (dress #23), I made the silhouette fuller. So, it is very similar to the ball gown varieties. I paired it with a Queen Anne Neckline since I just love that one for mermaid dresses! See picture below to the left... For the second (dress #24), I made the silhouette as I did for the first mermaid dress, which is similar to the a-line/princesses dresses. I paired it with a scoop neckline. See picture below to the right... There is still one more mermaid variation I could do, and that is like the fuller mermaid dress, but without a train. Apart from that, I would still like to complete the three more trumpet variations - ball gown effect both with & without a train, and a lacy effect with a train, similar to the a-line/princess dresses. Lastly, to bring it up to a round number, is a final column dress. There are 8 basic silhouettes [50's High-Waist (2), A-Line/Princess (5), Ball Gown (5), Column (6), Fishtail (1), High-Low (3), Mermaid (4), & Trumpet (4)], however, if you include their variations, that brings it up to at least 30 possible silhouettes. Combine this with the 20 necklines, and you have over 600 unique dresses and tops that can be made with this pattern! Isn't that amazing? I have to say that I am so happy I started this project. I had absolutely no idea just how grand this would be when I first started out. I had estimated in the beginning that I would have about 20 necklines, but didn't think I would end up with half as many of the silhouettes I have envisioned up to today. I have lots of fun things planned to do with pattern later this month. More news to come soon... PATTERN UPDATES: The crochet patterns for dresses similar to these is now available to purchase.
